Perhaps, but the only reason worms such as those that have "brought down the internet" (sic, media) exist are because of braindead, stupid, stupid holes in Microsoft's software. Windows is certainly a far easier platform to write viruses for, especially considering most users run as the equal of a root-privileged user, because to get anything useful done, and to not have every second application screaming at you, it's what you usually have to do.
