The SCO Group might be insanely stupid but I'm sure they've taken into
acocunt that someone might actually have a go at them.

If the Government slaps a huge fine on a company under the Trade Practices
Act it might affect the company's profits. Naturally I don't expect a
Government would--they seem to like to support big business and there are
other fish to fry anyway--but it might make a difference.
